About NumWords
NumWords helps people convert numbers to words in British English — quickly, accurately, and for free.
NumWords was created in 2021 to solve a common problem: people frequently need to write numbers in words — for cheques, legal documents, academic work, invoices, and everyday writing — but the rules of British English can be confusing.
Our tool applies the correct British English conventions automatically. That means “and” is used between hundreds and the remainder (two hundred and fifty), hyphens connect compound tens (thirty-eight, forty-six), and “and” is not inserted between major groups (two thousand five hundred, not two thousand and five hundred).
Our Mission
We aim to be the most reliable and easy-to-use British English number converter on the web. Every conversion on NumWords is checked against the accepted British standard, so you can trust the results for any formal or professional use.
Why British English?
British and American English differ in how numbers are written. In British English, “and” is standard after the hundreds within a group. Our converter is specifically designed for UK usage, making it ideal for anyone in the United Kingdom, or anyone writing to a British audience.
