Writing Numbers in Words — British English Rules

In British English, numbers are written with specific conventions that differ slightly from American English. The most important rule is the use of “and” between the hundreds and the remainder: for example, two hundred and fifty rather than simply two hundred fifty.

Compound numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine use a hyphen: thirty-eight,forty-six, seventy-two. Numbers in the thousands and millions are grouped by their major unit without “and” between them: two thousand five hundred(not two thousand and five hundred).

NumWords follows these British English conventions precisely, making it ideal for writing cheques, legal documents, academic work, and any situation requiring formally spelled-out numbers.
